Moncton Thunderbirds Begin New Chapter for 2020-21

The Moncton Midget AAA Thunderbirds are ready to take flight, as the team prepares for the 2020-21 season.

The Thunderbirds took a leave of absence for one year from the Nova Scotia Minor Midget Hockey League (www.nsmmaaahl.ca) in order to reset things and prepare for the 2020-21 season.  With the cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-20 Hockey Season, we feel the time is right to announce details of our program for the upcoming season.

Under the guidance of the Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers, the Thunderbirds are looking to establish a Program of Excellence that will allow 15- and 16-year-old players an opportunity to develop their skills which will provide them the opportunity to move on to the next level, as well be the main feeder system for the Flyers. We saw that with some of our players from our 1st season, with Nicholas Sheehan (QMJHL 91st overall pick – Moncton Wildcats) suiting up for the Flyers and being selected as Top Goalie Tandem for the 2019-20 season.  Other alumni such as Nicholas Donovan, Lucas Burrows, Nick St-Pierre with the RHS Royals, Maxime Doiron and Alexandre Richard with MM Matadors, Nathanial Dryden and Thomas Johnson with BMHS Highlanders, Julien LeBlanc with the CC Cavaliers all had very successful seasons.

n order to be a successful organization, it takes Strong, Committed and Competent Leadership.  We believe that we have found that in our coaching staff for the coming season.  Along with the leadership and guidance from the Moncton Rallye Motors Nissan Flyers, the Thunderbirds are pleased to announce the following members of our coaching staff:

Head Coach – Todd Bursey

Assistant Coach – Gene Mitton

With the experience and guidance that these gentlemen bring to the rink, the Thunderbirds program is in excellent hands.

The team will open training camp in the later part of August, beginning of September.  Dates and tryout information will be available in the coming weeks.

The team will begin play in mid-September along with the 8 other members of the NSMMHL.   The season will consist of a 36-game schedule, as well the team will participate in some tournaments through the course of the season, with the highlight being the Monctonian “AAA” Challenge in November.

Information and registration forms for the upcoming Moncton Flyers / Moncton Thunderbirds Spring ID Camp and Summer Conditioning Camp are available on the Flyers website at www.monctonaaaflyers.ca
