Sunday, July 11th:  2010 All-Star Game a Success!!!!

Not a cloud in the sky greeted a couple hundred fans and onlookers as the 2010 MCBL All-Star game was held today at Gaithersburg High School.

Dispute the warm day, the fans kept cool and nourished with drinks and pizza from the "Slice of Old Towne" who were onsite for today's festivities.

Due to pitching limitations the game was concluded after eight innings.

The Home Team All-Stars struck first with 3 runs in the first inning.   The Visiting team All-Stars fought back to take a 4-3 lead only to succumb to two more 3 run innings by the Home team All-Stars.

The Visiting Team loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the 8th and final inning before finally losing 9-5 to the Home team All-Stars.

Stellar performances were all around. The Home team All-Star pitchers started out with a couple of 1-2-3 innings. The Visiting team All-Star pitchers couldn't quite match and ended up hitting a record five batters. Putting that many runners on base clearly jeopradized their chances of winning.

There were a couple of nice catches in the outfield and a couple of crisply turned double plays in the infield.

Rob Medoff and Houston Hergeshiemer each had two hits in a losing cause.  Tommy Barksdale and Justin Cohen each hit impressive RBI doubles.

But in the end, it was hard to argue about the MVP performance of Chris Kelly.  Chris went a perfect 3 for 3, including a double and added a walk while driving in 3 RBIs for the winning Home team All-Stars.

MCBL wants to thanks the Jeff Rabberman and all of his volunteers including the grounds crew and George the spirited PA Announcer.  We also want to thank Brian Pietryka for his scintilating and insightful internet broadcast of todays game.
