Saturday, July 17th 8:00 am: Playoff Update
First place (and home field advantage) is still up for grabs.
The Blue control their own destiny. If they win two games today, they clinch first place. If the Blue splits, they can still clinch first if the Giants lose both of their games today. They could lose both today and still gain first if the Giants lose both today.
The Giants can gain first place by winning two games today with the Blue splitting today’s DH (Giants win the first tiebreaker with the Blue having won two games this year to one game in head to head competition with the Blue). They can even back into first place if they split today and the Blue loses both their games again by winning the first tiebreaker.
The Orioles have clinched third place and cannot climb into second nor fall to fourth. They can, however, help determine the Barons fate.
It gets a little complicated now with four teams playing for the final three spots. The Reds, Renegades and Gold control their own fate.
It appears the Reds have clinched a playoff spot. The Reds can clinch fourth place (and host a playoff game on Sunday) by winning both games today.
If the Reds split today, the Renegades can clinch fourth by winning both games today. The Reds and Gold would then go to the second tiebreak (fewest runs allowed head to head) to determine who gets fifth and who gets sixth). At the moment the Reds are behind the Gold by one run (in fewest runs allowed).
If the Reds lose both games today, the still clinch the final sixth spot (even if the Barons win) because they win the first tiebreaker with the Barons (head to head).
The Renegades can clinch fourth if they win both games today and the Reds split or the Gold wins two games over the Reds today.
The Renegades can also make the playoffs if they win one game today. If the Renegades lose both today, they could make the playoffs if the Gold lose two today to the Reds. They could miss the playoffs if they lose two and the Gold wins at least one and the Barons win today over the Orioles.
The Gold can clinch fourth if they win both games today and the Renegades split their DH.
The Gold can clinch a playoff spot if they split today and the Renegades lose both games. The Gold can also clinch a spot with a split if the Barons tie their game with the Orioles today.
The Gold can miss the playoffs if they split today and the Renegades split today and the Barons win today as they lose the second tiebreaker to the Barons (fewest runs allowed head to head). They miss the playoffs if they lose two today.
The Barons need a little help. With their tie today they're in the playoffs if either the Renegades lose both their games or the Gold lost both their games today. They hold the first tiebreaker over the Renegades (most head to head wins) and the second tiebreaker with the Gold (fewest runs allowed head to head).
