2007: MCBL Players taken in MLB Draft

Joseph Yermal, a right handed pitcher for this year's Maryland Orioles was taken in the 39th round of the June 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. In addition, Michael Giosioso, a second baseman who played last year with the Carroll County Rangers was taken in the 50th round by the Baltimore Orioles.
Joe a graduate of McDonogh High School, has signed a letter of intent to play college baseball for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was recently named the Gatorade Maryland State Baseball Player of the Year. Yermal, who is 6'-7" and 200 pounds, was an All-MIAA selection this spring after pitching to a 2.89 ERA over 43.1 innings and recording 44 strikeouts. He also starred at the plate, hitting .436 with six home runs and 20 RBI. In addition, he had a .567 slugging percentage and struck out just eight times in 55 at bats. The Baltimore Orioles have asked Joe to continue pitching this summer with the Maryland Orioles.
Mike, a second baseman, hit 44-for-157 (.280) in 50 starts this season for Mount St. Mary University and helped the team achieve a school record 35 wins and their first NEC Tournament appearance since 1998. In his three year college career Gioiso hit 116-for-413 (.281) with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 44 RBIs. In 136 college games he had a .384 career on-base percentage and stole 12 bases. He leaves the Mount as the school's 12th all-time leader in runs scored (84) and was second all-time in times hit by a pitch (26). He also helped lead the Carroll County Rangers to their league championship last year.
