September 26 - Games are three periods but we only played 2 1/2 in loss to Knights
Period 1
Heading into game 2 on a high after scoring nine in winning the season opener the Express had a tough time finding the twine behind a hot goaltender in River East. Playing without 2/3 of the top line from game one the Express still peppered the Knights with 11 shots in the first period,
Boonstra himself had 4 or 5 with a crossbar and the knob of the goaltenders stick too.
Period 2
Heading into the 2nd the chances kept coming until the midpoint of the period when an offensive zone error let to a Knights breakaway and the first lead of the the game.
This led to a 7 or 8 minute onslought when the Express came unglued, took some unneccessary penalties and gave up another two goals to be down by three after two periods.
The rookie Nash got his first start in net for the Express, made several good stops to keep it from being an even greater deficit.
The Express picked up their socks for the 3rd and outshot the Knights 14 to 6 which also didn't include another couple goalposts.
It took until the 11 minute mark of the 3rd for Kotchon to get one past the hot Knight's goaltender, followed by his second of the night only a minute and a half later to make the finish interesting.
The Knights prevailed with the 3-2 win but lesson hopefully learned for the Express, it takes three periods to play the game.
Next game it our Season Home Opener on Friday Oct 1, 8pm at East End Arena against the Ft Garry Twins.
