Down to the Wire !!
While it looks like the 2015 post season playoffs teams are set, the seedings are still up for grabs.
For the first time in a long, long time, the Gaithersburg Giants, a perennial powerhouse, one of the two remaining founding MCBL teams, and the 2014 defending MCBL Tournament Champions will not make the playoffs this year. After a rough start, they improved as the season progressed……but didn’t quite make it.
For the 2015 season, 6 of the 9 MCBL teams with the highest number of wins will be eligible for the MCBL post season tournament. All games will be 9 innings in length. The first round, on Saturday, for the 4 lowest seeded teams will be single elimination. All subsequent rounds will be double elimination.
For 2015, the cutoff date/time for determining team eligibility and seedings will be tonight, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:59 pm.
Just to remind everyone, that winning percentage is not considered for playoff seeds. Only wins count with ties counting as half a win. Refer to the “League Points” column for the count of wins credited to each team.
Finally, so everyone can follow along, here are the seeding tiebreakers as contained within the MCBL By-Laws:
Should two or more teams be tied at cut-off date, the following will be applied (starting with “ 1”) until the higher seeded team is identified:
1. Head-to-head winning percentage
2. Best record against teams that are higher seeded
then the team(s) in question.
3. Fewest runs allowed head-to-head
4. Coin toss (to be conducted by the MCBL
Commissioner)
Three teams are still in contention (as of Thursday morning) for the #1 overall seed with BCC in control of their own fate. If BCC wins their remaining game, they earn the #1 seed. If Putty Hill wins their remaining game, and BCC loses, they earn the #1 seed. If KOA wins their remaining game, and BCC loses, they earn the #1 seed.
Looks like it will go down to the last inning of the last game played.
See ya at the ballfield !
