Down to the last pitch of the season !!!
As predicted, this year's playoff seedings weren't finally determined until the last batter of the last inning of the last regular season game played.
First, the KOA Sports Warriors continued their torrid hot streak by beating the Putty Hill Panthers 7 - 4.
Then the gritty Diamond Pros gave the defending regular season champion BCC Big Train all they could handle in a classic pitcher's duel. The score was tied 1 - 1 when the Pros came up to bat in the bottom of the last inning. The last batter was the potential winning run but BCC ended the game without allowing it to be scored.
Thus, BCC earned another tie. With ties counting as half a win, BCC ended the season with 21 wins.......same as KOA.
The league had to go to the third tiebreaker (runs allowed head to head during the regular season) in order to determine that BCC earned the #1 seed in the postseason playoffs. KOA earns the #2 seed with both teams earning a first round bye.
On Saturday, the #6 seed Baltimore Rays take on the #3 seed Putty Hill Panthers and the #5 seed Dig In Baseball takes on #4 seed Baltimore Chop. Both games are at St. Paul's High School and both games are elimination games. The winners advance to a double elimination format starting Sunday.
Congratulations to all teams for another fine competitive season and good luck to the playoff bound teams.
See ya at the ballfield!
