Records Being Threatened

Friday, June 24, 2016

With the season just about half over, it is interesting to note that several players are on pace to break MCBL season records.

At the plate, KOA’s Tre Smith is hitting .446.  With 56 at bats, he could end the season with over 100 at bats and would threaten the record of .406.   Tre also could break the number of hits record in a season currently standing at 44.

Tyler Post of the Gaithersburg Giants has hammered out 9 doubles and is on pace to break the season record for doubles of 12.

Abel Arocho of the Baltimore Chop has hit 4 triples and is one away from tying the all-time record of 5 triples in a season.

With 29 at bats, Sean Sivo of the Baltimore Rays has a stellar on base percentage of .622 and would set a record if he keeps this pace up…..regardless of the number of at bats he ends up with.

Alex Kriss of the Diamond Pros has 70 plate appearances and has a shot at breaking the all-time record of 141 plate appearances.

Myles Mensah of Dig In has already laid down 4 sacrifice bunts and could break the record of 6 sacrifice bunts in a season.

On the mound, the Diamond Pro's Chris Melrath has struck out 29 batters already and threatens the all-time record of 50 strikeouts in a season.  Putty Hills's Keith Coulson is right on his heels with 23 strikeouts.

Several pitchers, including BCC’s Tyler Honeycutt have won 3 games already and are halfway to the record of 6 wins in a season.

They say that records were meant to be broken.  We’ll just have to wait and see what the boys of summer have in store for us in the second half of the season.

See ya at the ballpark!
