DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME
As of Sunday morning, eight of the nine MCBL teams are still fighting for the coveted six postseason playoff spots. With only wins counting (and not winning percentage), teams are hoping that the weather will be kind and let them get all of their remaining games in to maximize their opportunity to win enough to make the playoffs.
And once the postseason playoffs start……..anything can happen. History may suggest it would be tough for the # 6 seed to make it to the finals. But the way runs are being scored, it wouldn’t be surprising to see any of the playoff teams in the finals.
Here’s the schedule for the tournament:
Tuesday, July 17th: Regular season ends (11:59 p.m.)
Wednesday, July 18th: Playoff seedings determined
Thursday, July 19th: Playoffs begin: sudden death play-in games
(# 6 seed at # 3 seed)
(# 5 seed at # 4 seed)
Friday, July 20th: Day off
Saturday, July 21st: Semi-finals begin (best 2 out of 3)
(lowest seed at # 1 seed)
(remaining seed at # 2 seed)
Sunday, July 22nd: Semi-finals continue (second game)
Monday, July 23rd: If necessary (third game) of semi-finals
Tuesday, July 24th: Finals begin (best 2 out of 3)
Wednesday, July 25th: Day off (potential make-up date for rain outs)
Thursday, July 26th: Finals continues (second game)
Friday, July 27th: If necessary (third game) of finals
Saturday, July 28th: Make-up date for rained-out finals game
Sunday, July 29th: Make-up date for rained-out finals game
All tournament games (except for Wednesday, July 25th make-up games) will be played at Fields # 4 and # 5 at Blandair Park at 5750 Oakland Mills Rd., in Columbia, Maryland. Games on Field # 4 (closest to the parking lot) will start at 6:00 pm while games on Field # 5 will start at 6:15 pm.
All tournament games will be 9 innings and if interrupted, will continue (from the point of stoppage) the next evening. If rained out, they will be played the following night.
