Season Ends, Tournament Set

The 2019 MCBL regular season certainly didn’t disappoint. The league was very competitive top to bottom, with the six postseason playoff spots not determined until the final out was recorded in the final game played. Congratulations go to all teams for a very successful 2019 season.

 

As previously predicted, there was a three way tie for the sixth and final playoff spot. Using pre-established tiebreaker rules, DigIn Baseball earned the sixth seed by virtue of having won at least two out of three against both the Gaithersburg Giants and the BCC Big Train Stars during the regular season.

 

Hence the playoff seedings are as follows:

           # 1 Maryland Monarchs

           # 2 Putty Hill Panthers

           # 3 Baltimore Chop

           # 4 Koa Sports Green Wave

           # 5 Rockville Express

           # 6 DigIn Baseball

 

Here’s the schedule for the tournament:      

 

Thursday, July 18th:        Playoffs begin with sudden death play-in games

                                        (# 6 DigIn Baseball at # 3 Baltimore Chop)

                                        (# 5 Rockville Express at # 4 Koa Sports Green Wave)

 

Friday, July 19th:             Semi-finals begin (best 2 out of 3)                                                

                                        (lowest seed at # 1 Maryland Monarchs)                                                  

                                        (remaining seed at # 2 Putty Hill Panthers)

 

Saturday, July 20th:        Semi-finals continue (second game)

 

Sunday, July 21st:          If necessary (third game) of semi-finals                                                

Note: Finals will begin on Sunday if neither of the “if necessary”semi-final games are needed.

 

Monday, July 22nd:        Finals begin (best 2 out of 3)  

Tuesday, July 23rd:        Finals continues (second game)

Wednesday, July 24th:   If necessary (third game) of finals    

 

With a few exceptions, all tournament games will be played at the all-turf Fields # 4 and # 5 at Blandair Park at 5750 Oakland Mills Rd., in Columbia, Maryland.  Games on Field # 4 (closest to the parking lot) will start at 6:00 pm while games on Field # 5 will start at 6:15 pm.    

 

All tournament games will be nine innings and if interrupted, will continue (from the point of stoppage) the next evening. If rained out, they will be played the following night.
