7:45 pm update:   Both games tonight are underway.  Both games are currently tied.   Rockville & Koa are in the 8th inning at Chapelgate.   Monarchs and DigIn are in the bottom of the 2nd inning at Cannon.

 

2:15 pm update:  Both games today (at Chapelgate and Joe Cannon) are still on.

 

Tournament Underway:   Update # 4

After mother nature delayed the start by two days, the 2020 MCBL tournament commenced last night with all 8 teams in action.   

 

As expected, the type of games ranged all the way from a classic pitcher’s dual to an impressive offensive display.   What was somewhat unexpected was that two of the top three seeds fell in the opening round.

 

When the tournament seeds and parings were announced, the #2 seed Rockville Express and the #3 seed Koa Sports Green Wave had hoped that they would be facing each other in the second round.   They got their wish………although they will face each other in a consolation bracket game rather than a winner’s bracket game.

 

Instead, the two teams that beat Rockville and Koa will face off in a winner’s bracket semi-final game.  This means that either the #6 seed Maryland Monarchs or the #7 seed DigIn Baseball will find themselves in the championship finals as they now play each other in the second round.

 

Rain has already fallen on Thursday.  Looking at the forecast, it doesn’t bode well for the two second round games scheduled for Thursday evening.  MCBL will be in contact this afternoon with field authorities to assess the playability of the baseball fields.  Just because it’s raining where you live/work, doesn’t necessarily mean that it has rained at the ballfield.

 

MCBL will make a final go/no-go decision for the game at Chapelgate by 3:00 pm while the final go/no-go decision for the game at Joe Cannon will be made by 4:00 pm.

 

If the games are rained out, we will simply reschedule them…….most likely the Monarchs vs. Digin will be rescheduled to Friday evening at Chapelgate while the Express and Koa will be rescheduled to Saturday morning at Chapelgate.
