Post-season Tournament Set

The 2022 MCBL regular season concluded Thursday evening, July 14th, and only for the third time we have a co-championship.  Congratulations to the Baltimore Chop who have won their third regular season championship (their first since 2013) and to the Putty Hill Panthers who won their third regular season championship (their first since 2020).

 

The 2022 MCBL Post-season Tournament will begin on Friday, July 15th.  Except for the first game (a sudden death play-in game with the # 9 seed at the #8 seed), it will be a standard double elimination tournament.  Except for the “if necessary” championship game, the higher seeded team (e.g., lower number) is always the home team.

 

As expected, the final seedings were not known until the last out of the last game had finished.  Several teams were tied in the win column and the first tiebreaker (head to head results) served to determine the higher seed.

 

Thus, the 2022 seedings are as follows:

          # 1 : Baltimore Chop

          # 2 : Putty Hill Panthers

          # 3 : Koa Sports Green Wave

          # 4 : Rockville Express

          # 5 : BCC Big Train Stars

          # 6 : Baltimore Clippers

          # 7 : DigIn Baseball

          # 8 : BBA Eagles

          # 9 : Maryland Monarchs

 

The tournament begins on Friday, July 15th with the Maryland Monarchs at the BBA Eagles at Laytonia at 7:00 pm.

 

Entering the tournament, some teams have an explosive offense, some have stellar pitching, some have finished hot, some have perhaps temporarily cooled off a bit.  Given the history where a lower seed always seems to be hot during the tournament, it could be interesting.

 

While the schedule is posted, fans and followers should check often as rain is in the forecast for much of next week….starting perhaps on Sunday.
