Tournament Concludes
July 24, 2022
The Baltimore Clippers captured their first MCBL Postseason Tournament Championship by defeating the Maryland Monarchs 7-3 on Saturday night at Laytonia Regional Park.
The Clippers used stellar pitching from starter Matt Archibald and relievers Ian McAslan and Ryan Pickle to keep the previously red-hot Monarchs at bay.
Congratulations to both the Monarchs and the Clippers for an outstanding tournament performance!!!

And what a tournament it was. Consider this:
1). Until this year, no # 9 seed had ever won a tournament game......let alone reach the finals. The # 9 Monarchs not only won a game.....but multiple games to reach the finals.
2). Until this year, the # 1 seed or the # 2 seed had always appeared in the tournament championship finals. This year......both the # 1 seed Baltimore Chop and # 2 seed Putty Hill Panthers suffered two losses in their first games and exited the tournament. This is the first time the #1 seed had suffered two losses in their first tournament games since the 2014 BCC Big Train Stars.
3). Until this year, no team had ever won more than 4 games in tournament. The Monarchs tied this (winning four in a row)......and then the Clippers blew past it winning six games.......all in a row.
4). The Rockville Express and DigIn Baseball scored the fourth highest number of runs (14) ever scored in a tournament game.....and lost. The Putty Hill Panthers scored the third highest number of runs (17) ever scored in a tournament game.....and lost.
5). Koa Sports Green Wave and the Baltimore Clippers scored 22 combined runs against each other.....until this year....the fourth highest ever in a tournament game. But....Koa and DigIn combined for 33 runs....until this year......the highest ever. However.....Rockville and the Clippers combined for 34 runs. But wait....Putty Hill and DigIn combined for 35 runs!!!
6). Does momentum matter? Well.....the Chop finished the regular season with five straight wins.....and promptly lost their first two tournament games. The Clippers lost their last four regular season games, lost another to start the tournament.....and then won six games in a row.
7) Home team advantage..........forgetaboutit!!! Until this year, the home team had a typical slight advantage in winning tournament games. This year......the home team only won 4 out of 16 games!!!
8) In the 2021 tournament, Koa Sports Green Wave and the Baltimore Clippers scored a combined 22 runs (among the highest games ever) against each other. Guess what.......in 2022 they again scored a combined 22 runs against each other.
To say it was wild, unexpected and entertaining would be an understatement.
And that's why they play the game!!
See ya next year at the ballfield!!!
