t's hard to believe for fans who saw the Express go into the 8th inning 6 outs away elimination on Sunday, but the Express continues its playoff run after defeating the Chop 9-7 in another thriller Wednesday night.
Rockville's win was powered by a 5 run top of the 2nd, as the Express managed 5 extra base hits on the night, 2 of which came off the bat of Brody Lindsey, who went 3-4 again with 2 doubles and is hitting a mind boggling .750 in the postseason. Cole Carter, Jack Morin, and Bronson Taylor managed the other XBHs, and Will Gisrael drove home a pair of runs.
Andrew Kummer started the game for Rockville, and held the Chop (who defeated the Express in all four regular season meetings) at bay while the Express jumped to a 7-2 lead. While the lead dwindled, a strong 3.1 inning performance out of the bullpen by Aiden Dubetsky held the Chop at bay. Dubetsky was named Player of the Game, earning the save and striking out 7 hitters. Dubetsky said: "I'm primarily an infielder, so anytime I get the chance to pitch it's fun."
Dubetsky isn't the only one having a good time, as things are all coming together for the Express. The team's energy is palpable in the dugout. Express GM Michael Zuckman said, "Seeing this team gel in the playoffs is so gratifying. Coach Price always finds a way to create team chemistry that translates to success on the field." In the Express playoff wins they've reached base 40% of the time as a team and pitched to a 3.11 ERA.
The Express' magical run continues tonight vs DigIn at 6:30 PM.
