Perfection

July 13, 2026

There are several events that are extremely rare in baseball.  Among them are the unassisted triple play; hitting for the cycle; stealing second, third and home in one trip.

For pitching……..throwing the perfect game joins the extraordinary group of events.

Out of over 25,000 games in the history of the major leagues, only 24 perfect games have been thrown.   That’s about 1 for every 10,000 games.

There have been over 2,300 games played in the history of MCBL.  There has never been a perfect game thrown.

Last Saturday, the Putty Hill Panthers Kamden Sowers took the mound at Calvert Hall against the Olney Dusters in the first game of a double header.  The right handed Kamden from York, Pennsylvania is a rising junior who will be pitching for West Chester University.

He faced a team who was leading the league in the average number of runs scored per game.  The Duster’s players averaged getting on base 42.9 percent of the time.  The odds of setting down such a team in order for an entire seven inning game……were less than 1 in 129,000.

Yet, that’s exactly what he did.

Kamden struck out 12 of the 21 batters he faced and induced the other 9 into grounders and fly balls that his defense converted into outs.  Over half of his first pitches to each batter were strikes.

Ironically, he wasn't feeling his best when he started the game after only 3 days rest.  His changeup and slider seemed to result in a lot of missed swings.  Despite developing a blister in the sixth inning, he persevered.

When he walked off the mound after 100 pitches, he had pitched the Panthers to a 5-0 victory and cemented himself in the history of MCBL.

Congratulations to Kamden for this historical and magnificent performance!

See ya at the ballfield!
