Davidson County Babe Ruth League
Est. October 2003
The Davidson County Babe Ruth League was established in October 2003 with a representative from each of the following communities: Arcadia, Churchland, Midway, Reeds and Welcome.
The purpose of establishing this association was to expand opportunities for the kids of Davidson County. Not only would this league offer baseball and softball on a recreational level, but it would also allow serious players to advance in tournament play beyond their regular season.
Differences of opinion cause division between county's booster clubs...
2004 - Inaugural Season
The first season began with 34 teams and included pool players from other communities. We started with Major, Minor and Babe Ruth leagues which consisted of boys and girls ages 9-16 years of age. Our association was pleased to learn that our “first” year out, we were awarded two tournaments: the 11-year old Area tournament and the 9-year old State tournament.
As the host site for the 9-year old State tournament, one of our teams would automatically obtain a bid to the tournament even if they were not a top finalist. However, one of our 9-year old teams WON the Area Tournament and legitimately earned their state tournament spot.
2005 - Growth in Year 2
In 2005 we were already growing, adding the Rookie Division (machine and coach pitch) for boys and girls ages 6 through 8. The 11-year old Boys team went to the State Tournament.
2006 - Expansion
DCBRL is proud to announce the expansion of our league to include Davis-Townsend Boosters. For the first time, DCBRL fielded a Senior League Boys team of 16 - 18 year olds. DCBRL is the only place for 15 - 18 year olds to play ball in a rec league.
2007 - Continued Growth and Success
DCBRL continued to increase the number of athletes in the league, and once again DCBRL provided a Senior League, fielding 2 Senior League Boys teams of 16 - 18 year olds. DCBRL is the only place for 15 - 18 year olds to play ball in a rec league. All-star teams experienced tremendous success, with several teams placing first or second in their district, and finishing among the top teams in the state.
Other booster clubs have also expressed interest in joining the most exciting, largest athletic program in Davidson County!
Babe Ruth is an exciting venture and a great opportunity for all kids living within Davidson County. In the years to come, don’t be surprised if you see another “Ruth” that developed from our county!
