Being part of the Thomas Dale Football Tradition is not easy, but the rewards are worth it in the end. “Football is not just a sport, but a way of life”. It takes leadership, courage, strength, and the ability to work as a TEAM.
The friendships and relationships you build on the team become a part of you for life. Your teammates become not only your friends; they will become your brothers. Someone once said that “Baseball is for fathers and sons, but football is like brothers beating each other up in the back yard”. Treat your teammates and coaches with dignity and respect; you will get the same dignity and respect in return.
Take criticism well, and use it as a challenge for you to do better. Make improvements through extra hard work both on and off the field. The better you make yourself, the better you show your improvement, the better your chances of making the team!
Train with your teammates in the offseason. We as a Coaching Staff understand summer schedules and we know that it’s not always possible to train with someone to motivate you. Sometimes you will have to go to the track, field or gym alone. These are the times when you will discover just what you are made of. You can push yourself and work hard or you can just go through the motions, the choice will be yours. The times alone will test and build your character; these are the times when champions are built. Choose now what you want to achieve this summer, focus your thoughts upon it, and don’t let anything get in your way.
Remember that you are a part of something special and it’s going to take a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication on your part. OUT HUSTLE, OUT WORK, OUT THINK, OUT PLAY, OUT LAST!
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will”. -Vince Lombardi
