Play It Forward Volunteer Program
“Student athlete” is a phrase commonly used in today’s society. They are expected to make contributions in the classroom, on the playing field, and more importantly, in the community. The status held by a student athlete can not only provide a positive impact within their own life, but amongst peers and within the surrounding community, each characteristic vital to a key quality for the title of a student athlete, being a good role model.
Being a good role model on and off the field is the expectation of all particpants in the Ribault Trojan Football Program. Coach Marlon White believes in the capability of every student athlete and member of the Ribault Trojan Football Progam to be up to PAR (Positive, Accountable, Responsible). In doing so, he requires that all student athletes participate in one of the best opportunities to set the standard of excellence for program paraticipants, and will also prepare Ribault Trojan student athletes for college: volunteering.
At its core, volunteering is an unpaid way to give back to a cause. Some commonly known benefits of volunteering include an improved mood, lowered stress levels, and a healthier outlook on life. Volunteering also presents many additional benefits to student athletes. It can help shape their worldview, guide career paths, and encourage them to have internal pride as they provide sevices that make positive impacts within their community. Last, but not least, volunteering in high school plays a significant factor when it comes to college admissions decisions.
Community service is valuable because it reminds us to be grateful for what have and that nothing should be taken for granted. Although we may have obstacles getting to where we are, community service reveals the reality that we are not alone in our struggles. Volunteering connects us to our communitues and provides opportunties to display compassion for others from a prospective not usually observed outside of our personal experiences.
We are currently connecting with various community partners in Jacksonville and strategizing ways for Ribault Trojan student-athletes to Play it Forward safely during this unprecedented time. Check back for updates and volunteer opportunities in a community near you.
