Great Day for a Ballgame
July 25, 2026
The temperature was comfortable, the skies were sunny, there was a slight breeze…..in short it was an absolutely perfect day for fans to watch the finals of the 2026 MCBL Post-season Tournament at Calvert Hall High School.
The resilient Baltimore Clippers were appearing in their second ever post-season tournament finals and they were looking to thwart the Putty Hill Panthers from winning back-to-back tournament championships.
The Clippers came to play, grabbing an early 1-0 lead and out-hitting the Panthers 15 to 7.
But the Panthers bunched their hits and coupled with a few free walks, put together two big innings to beat the Clippers 9-5.
The defensive player of the game was the Panther’s catcher Derek Poole. Not only did he make a great sliding catch near the dugout of a short pop foul ball, he caught one of the Clippers runners by his surprise throw to third base after a routine pitch.
For the Panthers, this victory was their sixth tournament championship......more than any other MCBL team in history. It was also their second back-to-back tournament championship….only the second ever team to repeat.
By the way, a small oddity…..it was the fifth game of the tournament for the Clippers and in all five games, one team scored 5 runs.
Kudos to the Clippers for a great tournament and congratulations to the Panthers for winning the championship.
See ya at the ballfield next year !!
